Pension records say that Junius Robert Gibbs contracted measles at Winfield, WV, Jan. 1863, and before fully recovered his command was ordered to Hurricane Bridge (a distance of 12 miles).  Junius was taken on horseback, but suffered a relapse which resulted in a bad cough which continued until the end of the war.
Then, in Jan. 1864, Junius was "frozen to insensibility" while out with a scout party marching from Trout Hill to Barboursville, and had to be left behind.  Later he was brought back into camp, and then sent home on furlough to recuperate, but never fully did.
Junius remained 3/4 disabled for life.  On June 15, 1910, he was granted a pension of $30/mo. for "disease of lungs, rheumatism and disease of heart".
