Ephraim was born about 1840 in Jackson County, West Virginia, the son of William Stewart & Mary Parsons.  He was the brother of Adam and George Stewart, both of Co. B, 13th WVI.  He married Oletha Smith, born ca.1848 in West Virginia.

Ephraim died July 24, 1864, in Winchester, Virginia (Battle of Winchester).  He is buried in Warner Church Cemetery, Mason County, West Virginia.
