George Washington Stover was born ca. 1840, in Pendleton Co., West Virginia,
the son of John J. & Catherine Hartman Stover. He enlisted in
the army on the December 24, 1863, and was discharged June 8, 1865, at
Wheeling, West Virginia.
He was 19 years old, and was 5'8" tall, with a fair complexion, blue
eyes, and dark hair. His occupation when he enlisted was farmer.
George married Sarah E. Postlethwait (Postlewheight) on July 27, 1865, in Mason County, West Virginia. Sarah was born March 13, 1843, in Wetzel County, West Virginia, and was the daughter of Albert Postlethwait & Rhoda Dulaney.
George died December 23, 1862, in Mason County, and Sarah died February 4, 1898, in Mason County. Both are buried in Spruce Cemetery, Union District, Mason County.
